PALAU Y ou have said at some point that we live on a work of art that cannot be reproduced, a work that we have altered with human action. Are your photographs an interpretation of the Earth? My photographs are not a transcription of the Earth. In fact, I would say that they are a true replica of what I see. However, what I find more interesting is that the aerial view gives you an all-encompassing perspective. The view from the air is completely different and much broader. The perspective changes and allows you to understand a country better and how people live there. For example, if what you see is a rich or poor land, how people use the land and what their customs are. Then, are your photos art or document? I do not intend in any way to be an artist. I am simply presenting what I see. My photos are simply an evidence. However, aerial photography fascinates… Now it is not quite like that. For example, with Google tools you can see images of the Earth from the sky. We have got YANN used to that. In any case, what happens is that people can see the world from a new perspective, and get a view that differs from their everyday experience. That is why I liked taking photographs from the air so much: because you are not enclosed in a space, trapped in a place that is limited or in over-defined terrain. There are no sceneries better than others, does it all depend on the view? Often people ask me which is the place that I prefer in the world, and it is a question that, in my mind, does not make sense, as the places themselves are no better or worse. The real difference is established by human beings and their way of life. The truth is I consider myself a citizen of the world, and therefore I do not like to compare specific sceneries, because what I want and appreciate is to obtain a complete vision of the unit. What is your vision of Catalonia? Are there wilderness areas? What has attracted me most are the protected areas, as I was pleased to see that there are many in Catalonia. This region has a tough and dry landscape, very pretty and wilder than I imagined. However, to find genuinely unspoilt areas is difficu when we talk about a territory inhabited since time immemorial.
